West Ham United were beaten 4-0 by Everton at Goodison Park yesterday.

Danny Murphy of Fulham looks on during the Barclays Premier League match between Fulham and West Bromwich Albion at Craven Cottage on January 4, 2011 in London, England.

Danny Murphy has told Match of the Day, which was broadcast on BBC One on 29th November, that West Ham United’s defending was shambolic during their match against Everton.

David Moyes came out after the contest and slated West Ham’s first performance at Goodison Park.

The Hammers went into the break 2-0 down, and they had been thoroughly outplayed throughout the first 45 minutes.

West Ham actually improved in the second half, despite slipping to a 4-0 defeat, with individual errors hurting them.

David Moyes, Manager of Sunderland gives his team instructions during the Premier League match between Arsenal and Sunderland at Emirates Stadium on May 16, 2017 in London, England.

And Murphy feels Moyes was right to question his side’s defending publicly after the match.

Murphy also suggested that West Ham may have a problem with their fitness levels, as they were so passive during the contest.

The former Fulham and Spurs man said: “I agree with Moyes on the defending. There was no pressure, no desire. I don’t know if they’re not fit.”

West Ham’s previous boss Slaven Bilic was regularly criticised for not being strict enough with the players on the training ground, and Moyes has already promised that the player’s fitness levels will improve under his leadership.

However, Moyes has picked up just one point in his first three games in charge of the Hammers, with West Ham currently sat in the relegation zone in the Premier League.
