Danny Murphy predicts how Levy feels after Spurs win, praises Aurier

Tottenham Hotspur beat Chelsea 3-1 on Saturday evening.

Pundit and former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Danny Murphy has told the Daily Mail that he felt Serge Aurier was ‘bang on it’ against Chelsea – and praised Daniel Levy.

Spurs took on London rivals Chelsea at Wembley Stadium on Saturday evening, and ended up destroying the Blues’ unbeaten record in the Premier League this season.

Dele Alli and Harry Kane struck in the first half to put Spurs 2-0 up at the break, before Son Heung-min added a third early into the second period.

Olivier Giroud’s goal was little more than a consolation, as Spurs ran out comfortable winners at Wembley, dismantling Maurizio Sarri’s side in impressive fashion.

Spurs remain just three points behind Liverpool and five behind league leaders Manchester City despite failing to sign a single player over the summer, and much of the praise is going to boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Now, former Spurs midfielder Danny Murphy has praised Pochettino’s work improving players, adding that right back Serge Aurier – a player rarely praised – was ‘bang on it’ against Chelsea as he filled in for Kieran Trippier.

Murphy also predicted that chairman Daniel Levy will be a ‘happy man’ after Saturday’s win, as he and Spurs are being rewarded for keeping the faith with last season’s squad.

“After the criticism about Tottenham’s lack of spending in the summer, chairman Daniel Levy will be a happy man after that win against Chelsea,” said Murphy. “It proved something I’ve always felt, that this Spurs squad is far stronger than people have suggested. No Wanyama, Dembele, Trippier or Sanchez. On the bench Moura, Lamela, Vertonghen and Winks. Yet they were still far too good for a previously unbeaten Chelsea team.”

“People think buying more players is the answer to everything. It’s not. Improving the players you already have and working with them is important too. Think about the work that’s gone into improving Moussa Sissoko. He is having his best spell in a Spurs shirt, ditto Lamela. Serge Aurier was bang on it against Eden Hazard, the team looked strong, full of energy and if they were playing for places, and when you saw their bench, you see why,” he added.
