Danny Murphy offers Moshiri unpopular advice about Allardyce’s Everton future

Danny Murphy believes Sam Allardyce deserves another season with Everton.

Pundit Danny Murphy has told talkSPORT that he thinks Everton should stick with manager Sam Allardyce for another year in order for him to improve the brand of football at Goodison Park.

The Toffees swooped to land Allardyce as their new manager back in November, handing the former Crystal Palace boss a return to the Premier League after Ronald Koeman’s exit.

Whilst most knew that Allardyce would steady the ship at Everton, as he has done with a host of other Premier League clubs, there was immediate pressure on him to develop his brand of football beyond the route one style he had shown previously.

Unfortunately, many Everton fans feel that Allardyce’s style of football simply isn’t good enough, and patchy results have caused many to feel Allardyce should depart this summer.

The 63-year-old still has a year left on his contract though, and whilst the likes of Marco Silva and Paulo Fonseca have been touted as possible replacements, majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri faces a difficult decision this summer.

Now, pundit Danny Murphy – formerly of Everton’s rivals Liverpool – has told talkSPORT that he thinks Allardyce must be given more time to build his side, and will improve the style of football next season unless a ‘perfect’ candidate emerges.

‘It’s always a building process with Sam,” said Murphy. “What Sam has proven in the past is that he gets the initial job done, and then he improves the type of football and level of performance as time goes by.”

“I would suggest that the sensible thing for Everton to do, unless there is an absolutely perfect candidate out there they think can come in, is to see how the summer transfer window goes with Sam making some of the choices himself. Then, give him the season to see if the football can improve and he can do what he did at other clubs,” he added.

Unsurprisingly, Murphy’s comments have been hugely unpopular with Everton fans, who have taken to Twitter to suggest that he is bound to want Allardyce to stay because he is a Liverpool fan, and claimed he is wrong about Allardyce improving the brand of football as time goes on.
