Danny Murphy has stated that Aston Villa and Poland defender, Matty Cash, is ‘some player’, as he told talkSPORT.
The TV pundit added that he ‘fully understands’ why the Villa right-back opted to switch allegiances from England to Poland.
Given the array of right-backs on display for the Three Lions, even someone like Trent Alexander-Arnold hasn’t been able to cement his place in the XI yet.
At Euro 2020, Gareth Southgate, in his initial squad, picked Alexander-Arnold, Reece James, Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker.
That’s a stupid amount of talent for any upcoming right-back to try and compete with, as Murphy lauded Villa’s £16 million flyer (Sky Sports) as a ‘brilliant’ signing.
“He’s some player that lad,” said Murphy. “Brilliant signing. He has been absolutely terrific.
“But you are talking about a position, unfortunately for him, where we have some of the best players on the planet.
“When you talk about Kyle Walker, Reece James, Trent and Kieran Trippier. It’s bizarre having that much talent in one position.
“So, I fully understand Cash’s decision to represent Poland.”

During Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad, given the spate of injuries and pull-outs, he called up Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters for the first time.
There’s no reason why Cash could have been that player instead, if he still was representing England, but at the end of the day, he made the call for the better of his long-term future.
On the domestic stage, he is going from strength to strength in Villa colours and his attacking numbers are starting to pick up under Steven Gerrard.
It could be argued that he is probably heading towards being Villa’s Player of the Season so far because he has been outstanding.
