Danny Murphy identifies two reasons why he thinks Tottenham will beat Arsenal and get top four this season

Danny Murphy has told Stadium Astro that he fancies Tottenham to win the race for fourth place for two reasons – Antonio Conte, and Harry Kane. Spurs secured a 2-0 win over Brighton on Wednesday, and sit in seventh.

Spurs have been incredibly inconsistent of late, beating the likes of Manchester City, Leeds, Everton and now Brighton – but losing to Burnley, Middlesbrough in the FA Cup and the Manchester United on Saturday.

What is clear, is that Spurs have now won three of their last four Premier League matches. While they remain three points behind Arsenal, who also have a game in hand, they look as though they have an easier run in.

Spurs face West Ham, Newcastle, Villa, Brighton, Brentford, Leicester, Burnley and Norwich in eight of their remaining 10 games. They will also play Liverpool, and then a crucial clash against London rivals Arsenal.

Both Arsenal and Manchester United’s run of fixtures are a lot harder. But according to ex-Spurs midfielder Murphy – the experience and mentality of Conte, and the improved form of Kane, might just see Spurs sneak in.

“I’ve just got a feeling. Looking at the fixtures, and I make Arsenal favourites, I just think Tottenham might sneak in. There are two reasons. One is because Conte has always had success, and needs a bit of luck.

“If you’re good and lucky, then great. The other reason is Harry Kane has hit the straps at the right time, he looks so strong and powerful. I’ve got a sneaky feeling Tottenham could get fourth, but it’s fascinating.”

The run-in could be crucial. While Arsenal have a game in hand over Spurs, Conte’s men have a game in hand over both Manchester United and West Ham. A win would see them climb above both sides.

Of course, Spurs beating West Ham this weekend would also strengthen their claims and knock David Moyes’ side out of the running. But realistically, Arsenal are best-placed. Despite defeat, they look consistent.
