Danny Murphy wants Steve Clarke to become the new Aston Villa boss.

Pundit Danny Murphy has told talkSPORT (03/10/2016) that he would like to see Steve Clarke win the Aston Villa job on a permanent basis.
Villa chose to sack manager Roberto Di Matteo on Monday morning, having seen his side lose 2-0 to Preston North End away from home on Saturday afternoon.

After just one win in his first 11 Championship games, it’s no great surprise to see Di Matteo lose his job, and owner Tony Xia must now turn his attention to finding a replacement.
A host of names have already been linked with the club, but Di Matteo’s assistant Steve Clarke will be in charge of the club on a temporary basis until Villa find their new manager.
Scot Clarke, 53, has been highly regarded throughout his coaching career with the likes of Chelsea, West Ham and Liverpool, but has had mixed managerial spells with West Bromwich Albion and Reading.

Now charged with the task of guiding Villa whilst they search for a replacement for Di Matteo, Clarke may yet get the chance to win the job permanently.
One pundit who believes that Clarke deserves that chance is Danny Murphy, who told talkSPORT that he thinks Villa would do well to find a better manager than Clarke.

Murphy added that Villa have massively overspent on ‘average’ players over the summer, calling their transfer business ‘absolutely ludicrous’.
“I hope so,” said Murphy. “I like him a lot. He would be a very solid choice, definitely. Steve Clarke was very well thought of at Liverpool – I spoke to the boys there and they really liked him. He was very unlucky at West Brom, and actually did a good job at Reading, and I think Villa will be doing well to get a someone in better than him.”
“They’ve so overspent on players. Some of the money they have spent on average players is ridiculous, absolutely ludicrous,” he added.
