Could Tottenham Hotspur really sign the Real Madrid ace?

Danny Murphy explained the potential scenario that could see Tottenham sign Real Madrid ace Gareth Bale this summer, when speaking exclusively to talkSPORT.

The Welshman’s future in the Spanish capital is far from certain, despite his match-winning performance in the Champions League against Liverpool on Saturday night.

He has played second fiddle to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Isco this season, and at the age of 28, he will surely be looking for assurances regarding his playing time at the Santiago Bernabeu next season, if he is to stay in Madrid.

Bale’s salary and likely inflated transfer fee would surely make a move to Spurs untenable, however, with the Wales international reportedly on £650,000 per week before tax at the Bernabeu, according to talkSPORT.

Murphy believes that a deal for the Welsh wizard could be possible, though.

The former Spurs ace told talkSPORT how Tottenham could be capable of signing the Real Madrid star, if they offered Los Blancos the first option on star man Harry Kane:

“If he [Bale] is not as bothered about money – the one place he was happiest and played his best football was Tottenham, and is there a possibility they could do a deal for him somehow? I mean a deal as in ‘look, we’ll do you a favour here, but we want first option on Kane in a year or two.’ So there’s some sort of agreement that they get the first option on Harry Kane. I’m just thinking there are ways and means. If Bale is the type of lad – and I think he is – who just wants to be content with life, because he’s won everything anyway and earns a good living – he’s got enough dough to last a lifetime. Tottenham was his happiest time in football, so it’s not beyond the realms that going into the new stadium Tottenham and Levy could pull a rabbit out a hat.”

This summer will be a vitally important one for Spurs, and if they are to make genuine progress, they absolutely must keep hold of Kane.

As much as Bale’s return to Tottenham would be greeted with great cheer by Spurs fans, the prospect of losing the England international would surely dampen their excitement.
