The Liverpool striker is struggling for form this season.
Danny Murphy has told The Daily Mail that an in-form Roberto Firmino is ‘unstoppable’ for Liverpool but admitted that the Brazilian was struggling this season.
The 27-year-old is expected to return to Liverpool’s first XI for this afternoon’s visit of Fulham, after manager Jurgen Klopp put him on the bench for the 2-0 defeat at Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League.
But Firmino, signed by former Reds boss Brendan Rodgers, impressed when Klopp introduced him for the second half.
The former Hoffenheim hitman has only managed four goals in all competitions this season, which represents quite a decline when you consider that he netted over 25 last season.
And although Murphy acknowledges that he isn’t as sharp as last term, the former Liverpool midfielder says he simply cannot be stopped when he is on form.
“To me, he hasn’t looked quite as sharp this season, and maybe that explains why Klopp didn’t start him in midweek, to give him that little break,” he told The Daily Mail.
“Funnily enough, Romelu Lukaku is a similar type I that when he drops physically, it affects his performances. When he’s at it, he’s unstoppable.”
Firmino might be a brilliant footballer, but let’s not forget he is a striker and strikers are judged on goals.
Talented as he might be, he only has two goals in 10 Premier League games this season.
Liverpool fans will defend him and claim that he brings more to the table than just goals, which is of course true, but he also brought goals to the table last term and a lot of them.
