BBC pundit Danny Murphy finds positive in Newcastle United’s performance.
Newcastle United’s poor run in the Premier League continued after the Magpies lost 3-1 against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
The Magpies took the early lead through Dwight Gayle, who neatly finished from inside the box.
However, Chelsea responded strongly, and turned the match in their favour, with goals from Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata.
Newcastle showed great spirit and desire, but in the end, they were beaten by a team with superior quality and some fantastic individual performances.
Former Liverpool midfielder turned football pundit Danny Murphy has found plenty of positive from Newcastle’s performance, despite the result.
The BBC pundit says that the Magpies have shown “spirit and fight”, and that they won’t be playing Chelsea every week.
“They’ve shown spirit and fight and they’re not going to play Chelsea every week. Today hasn’t been that bad for them,” said Murphy to BBC Sport (live commentary; 2nd December – 14:20 pm).
Newcastle had only 34% of possession, and managed just two shots on target during the course of 90 minutes.
The Magpies fans will agree that the individual errors, which Rafael Benitez also pointed out, against a top-quality team made a huge difference in the game.
Newcastle are winless in their last six Premier League games, and managed just one win in their last nine. They face Leicester City at home in their next match.
