Rodgers has impressed at Celtic since taking over in the summer of 2016.
Danny Murphy has told BBC Scotland that he believes Brendan Rodgers will leave Celtic sooner rather than later and return to the Premier League.
The former Liverpool manager has delivered beyond expectations since joining the Scottish champions in 2016, securing two successive trebles and bringing European football back to Celtic Park.
Indeed, Celtic recorded a quite magnificent 69-game unbeaten run in domestic football that has surpassed British records – one that Rodgers himself has admitted may never be surpassed.
Former Liverpool midfielder Murphy reckons Rodgers could leave Celtic after failing to get the club into the Champions League group stages this time around, with a Premier League return likely to be his course of action.
“He’s done as much as he can,” Murphy said. “I think Brendan has maybe even surpassed expectations. Could the Champions League have gone better? Maybe, but with what’s he’s had, he’s done well.
“He made Liverpool title challengers in a short space of time and I’m convinced he’s destined for a job back in the Premier League at some point in the not too distant future.”
The 45-year-old manager has plenty of experience in the English leagues after spells with Swansea City, Reading and Watford, as well as time in Chelsea’s youth academy and coaching set-up.
He has three years remaining on his contract at Celtic, but was linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer after Arsene Wenger called time on his long-winded spell at the Emirates – but was eventually replaced by Unai Emery.
