David Moyes is facing an uphill battle to keep West Ham United in the Premier League this season.

West Ham manager David Moyes looks on during the Premier League match between Manchester City and West Ham United at Etihad Stadium on December 3, 2017 in Manchester, England.

West Ham have made their worst ever start to a Premier League season with just two wins from their first 15 games.

Moyes has lost three and drawn one of his four games in charge and things don’t get any easier with Chelsea and Arsenal up next on Wednesday night.

Morale amongst fans is on the floor and West Ham’s prospects look bleak with mounting pressure on a clutch of “winnable” fixtures on the horizon.

The Hammers will have to go from one win in every eight games to one in every three to have any chance of staying up this season.

But pundit Danny Murphy told Sky Sports’ The Debate he thinks Moyes will keep the club up.

“I actually understand the negativity from West Ham fans surrounding the appointment (of Moyes) because they’ve been struggling recently and David Moyes has had a couple of jobs where he’s struggled,” Murphy told The Debate.

“What I would say is my experience of playing against a David Moyes teams, defensively good, well drilled, well organised, always fit.

“So short-term is he what West Ham need? Yea I think so. I don’t think it’s a bad appointment for what they need.

“I think they’ll be better defensively, I think he’ll get them fitter, definitely short term they’ll do better with him there.

“I think so (he will succeed at West Ham), it’s a good club to do it at, if you look at the squad he’s got some good players, I don’t think they’ll go down under Moyesy, no chance I really don’t think that.”
