Tottenham Hotspur were beaten 2-0 by Liverpool at Anfield yesterday.

Danny Murphy has told Match of the Day, which was broadcast on BBC One, that he felt Tottenham Hotspur should have stuck with their 3-4-3 system against Liverpool.

Tottenham played in a 4-2-3-1 shape against Liverpool at Anfield yesterday, and they struggled to impose themselves on the match.

Spurs were well beaten by Liverpool, after Sadio Mane netted two goals in the first-half of the contest.

Tottenham were all over the place at the back, and were fortunate to only go in two down at the break.

And Murphy has slated Spurs’ defensive performance, with Mauricio Pochettino’s tactics being called into question.

“I couldn’t believe what I was watching. They were all over the place,” the former Spurs midfielder said.

“They went to a back four today, which was interesting. Most of the time they’ve played with a three against the big teams, and done quite well. They lacked concentration and it became so easy.

“If they had Rose I would have understood playing a four, but I thought they should have stuck with what they’ve been doing against the big sides – playing a three.”

Tottenham have switched back to a four at back system since Jan Vertonghen was ruled out with injury.

Pochettino has also had to deal with Danny Rose picking up a knee problem, meaning Ben Davies has had to come into the backline.

Despite the defeat at Anfield, Tottenham remain in second place in the current Premier League standings.
