Danny Murphy has questioned Liverpool leaving out Xherdan Shaqiri against Everton.
Liverpool’s goalless draw with Everton saw the Reds relinquish their position at the top of the table.
It was the second successive away game where Liverpool had failed to score.
Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has questioned manager Jurgen Klopp declining to pick Xherdan Shaqiri.
Shaqiri did not start the game, nor did he come off the bench.
Murphy told BBC Sport he believes Shaqiri’s omission could be a mistake.
He said: “When Liverpool were flying, before Christmas, Xherdan Shaqiri played a big part in their good form, and I am surprised he has not been used more recently.
“Even in the 4-3-3 shape that Klopp went with at Everton, I was a little bit confused why he was left out from the start.
“But it was even stranger that Shaqiri did not get off the bench when I thought the game was crying out for someone with his creativity and explosiveness.”
Shaqiri did come off the bench against Manchester United a week earlier, but could not find a breakthrough.
At the weekend Klopp brought on Roberto Firmino, Adam Lallana and James Milner.
Shaqiri has not started a game since January, and last played 90 minutes in the Premier League back in December.
