West Bromwich Albion sacked Tony Pulis this week.
Danny Murphy has told The Evening Standard he is certain that Tony Pulis would have kept West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League this season.
West Brom parted company with the 59-year-old manager this week after almost three years in charge.
Albion sit 17th in the Premier League table, only above the relegation zone on goal difference but a shock win at Tottenham under caretaker Gary Megson today would give them a bit of breathing space.
Pulis, whose side had lost six and drawn four of their last 10 Premier League games, led the Baggies to a 10th-placed finish last season, making this season’s slump all the more surprising.
And although Murphy says he likes the former Stoke boss, the BBC pundit claims that the club’s hierarchy had to listen to the “moaning” fans.
“I like Tony Pulis and have no doubt West Brom would have stayed up if he had stayed,” he told The Standard.
“But sometimes you have to listen to fans, and a large number have been moaning about the style of play there for a while and wanted a change.
“Time will tell. It is never easy to change the philosophy of a team during a season.”
