Danny Murphy has claimed that Tottenham are a ‘better’ team when Cristian Romero is starting, as he told Match of the Day on BBC One
Signed under Nuno Espirito Santo’s stewardship in the summer, he was brought in to fill big shoes that have departed Spurs in recent times – Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.
After an injury-hit start to his North London career, Romero is starting to get his feet warm and becoming a key member of Antonio Conte’s three-man backline.
If Romero didn’t know it already, then he will know about the up and down emotions Spurs fans face – from beating Manchester City one week, to losing at Burnley days later.
And now getting dumped out of the FA Cup by Championship side, Middlesbrough – a game he started.
Nonetheless, regarding Romero, Murphy thinks Spurs are better with him in the XI, despite the Argentine being part of that 1-0 extra-time loss to Boro.
“Romero doesn’t mind a scuffle, does he?! (during FA Cup clash v Boro) said Murphy. “They are certainly a better team when he is in it.”

Spurs fans have been pleading for Daniel Levy to back the managers in the Tottenham dugout because it will help them really motor forward.
The Romero signing is proof that it can work, although, others will point to a certain Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso, who after big-money moves, have been loaned out.
Either way, Conte is a trophy-laden coach and he has proved that he can be trusted in the market.
The ball is in the court of those in the boardroom because, after Jose Mourinho, they don’t want another proven coach leaving without winning a trophy.
