Liverpool are in a rich vein of form after beating Porto in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Sky Sports pundit Danny Murphy had lauded the leadership qualities of Jordan Henderson and claimed that the Liverpool captain is now ‘after people’.

Last Friday, Henderson came off the bench to inspire the Reds to a 3-1 win over Southampton in the Premier League by setting up Mo Salah for the winning goal and then adding a third himself late on.

That performance saw the England international earn a starting spot as Jurgen Klopp’s side beat Porto 2-0 in the first leg of their Champions League knockout encounter.

Speaking on the Debate on Sky Sports Premier League (09/04/2019 at 10:20 pm), Murphy shared his honest thoughts on Henderson and claimed he is the best at leading a team.

“Henderson is the one out of all the midfielders that has the best leadership qualities in terms of his tenacity, his energy, his athleticism, his fitness and he gives people a rocket now,” Murphy told the Debate. “He’s after people, you see it a lot.

“You talk about his creativity, he should do more or be more positive. He’s the one out of all of them that would always be my first [choice midfielder] then two more with him.

On whether Henderson is unfairly maligned: “The lads I know who go to games, he’s grown on them, year in and year out. He’s become responsible. He can see a pass and he can score a goal. And he should have done that more really over the years because he is capable.”

In recent weeks Henderson has come off the bench for Liverpool and was even substituted during his side’s goalless draw against Manchester United to his clear frustration.

Whilst his goals and assists have not been hitting double figures, he has been a key part of a midfield that has helped Liverpool push deep into the Champions League and challenge fo the Premier League title.

At the weekend, Klopp’s side will turn their attention to league matters because they take on Chelsea on Sunday, who have a firing Eden Hazard amongst their ranks.
