BBC pundit Danny Murphy has admitted that he ‘expected’ Tottenham’s ‘super talent’ Lucas Moura to have a ‘better’ season following his hat-trick against Huddersfield.

The 26-year-old helped his side secure a comfortable 4-0 win against the already-relegated Yorkshire outfit on Saturday afternoon, with Spurs making it three wins out of three at their new stadium.

Mauricio Pochetinno was without star man Harry Hane, who injured his ankle during his side’s 1-0 win over Manchester City in the Champions League in midweek, but the London club coped perfectly fine without him.

Speaking to Match of the Day on BBC One (13/04/2019 at 10:45 pm), former Liverpool midfielder Murphy lauded the qualities of Moura and the manner in which he performed against the Terriers.

“He’s a super talent Lucas Moura and I think maybe we expected him to have a better season,” Murphy told Match of the Day. “He has got 10 league goals. He played at the start of the season and did really well.

“He’s not been as involved in the last few months. But today from minute one he was bang at it. It’s like he was saying to the manager ‘look, I want to play in the big one at City’. He played off Llorente but he popped up in all sorts of areas. I loved his variation in his game. He’s a big name player. He’s played at big clubs, nothing fazes him.”

Given Kane’s injury, Moura will no doubt now play a crucial part in Tottenham’s run-in as they are still in the Champions League and they require that extra push to finish in the top-four.

They hold a 1-0 lead over City from the first-leg of their European tie and will be looking to book their place in the semi-finals when they travel to the Etihad next Wednesday.

Added with that, they hold a three-point lead on fifth-placed Manchester United in the table as they are well aware that they have a number of teams chasing them for those all-important European spots.

Nonetheless, over the course of the season, Moura has scored 10 league goals for Pochettino’s side and he has supplied his teammates with just the one assist [transfermarkt].
