Premier League newcomers Aston Villa paid a club-record £26m to sign England hopeful Tyrone Mings from Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth.
Danny Murphy believes that Tyrone Mings’ price tag will have sky rocketed after a brilliant start to the Premier League season for Aston Villa, speaking to talkSPORT (14 October, 12pm).
Plenty of eyebrows were raised up and down the land when Dean Smith’s side splashed out a club-record £26 million on a defender who had struggled to nail down a place at Bournemouth.
But Mings has looked worth every penny in the top flight, making the transition from left-back to centre-half with ease while forming an impressive partnership with fellow summer signing Bjorn Engels at Villa Park.
The 26-year-old has been rewarded with a first ever call up for the England national team and will reportedly make his debut during a Euro 2020 qualifier against Bulgaria tonight.
And former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Murphy believes that Aston Villa would be able to demand far more than £26 million if someone comes calling for the one-time Ipswich Town starlet in January.
“He’s been terrific, he must have gone up in price. He is going to go places,” Murphy told Jim White on talkSPORT.
Mings is not the finished article yet with mistakes still a part of his game (see the error which gifted Arsenal a goal in the dramatic 3-2 defeat at the Emirates and the scuffed backpass against Norwich).
But blessed with natural leadership skills, excellent reading of the game and a head like a magnet when the ball is in the air, Mings has all the raw potential to go to the very top. £26 million is quickly looking like money well spent.
