Rangers remain six points behind Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic in the table after their win against Aberdeen.
Danny Mills has warned his former England teammate Steven Gerrard that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos will ‘cost’ them the title if he continues in his ‘petty’ ways.
The 22-year-old was shown a straight red during his side’s dramatic 4-2 win over Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen on Wednesday night [BBC Sport].
Prior to the incident which led to his dismissal, the Gers were winning the contest 3-2, with Morelos netting two goals for his side before he was involved in a flashpoint with opposition defender Scott McKenna.
Referee Bobby Madden had no choice but to send both players packing as Sky pundit Mills warned Rangers and their manager that their striker’s actions could end up proving to be very costly down the line.
“Steve has to get hold of him and say, ‘you cannot keep doing this’,” Mills told the Debate Show on Sky Sports on 06/02/2019. “You’re going to cost the team.
“You could possibly cost us the title when you could [actually] make yourself the biggest hero in the blue side of Glasgow. But actually, you could be the Villan and you might cost us that title. He has got to stop being petty.”
After an entertaining first half, both centre-back McKenna and Gers’ main man Morelos both seemingly aimed kicks at one another, which resulted in them seeing a straight red.
It was the third time that Morelos has been sent off against the same team this season as it could potentially dent his side’s Scottish Premiership challenge.
On the same night, leaders Celtic comfortably beat Hibernian on home soil to maintain their six-point lead over their Old Firm rivals [BBC Sport].
Nonetheless, over the course of the season, Morelos has been a standout performer for the Gers, playing 36 games in all competitions, scoring 20 goals in the process, according to transfermarkt.
