Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa should have signed a striker from Tottenham Hotspur or Manchester City, suggests Danny Mills.
The former Leeds right-back believes that Leeds should have gone to Tottenham and City and asked for a striker from their respective Under-23 side in the summer transfer window.
Mills said on Sky Sports Main Event (2:46pm, August 10, 2019): “He is great mates with Pochettino, he is great mates with Pep.
“Just go to one of those clubs and say, ‘Can we just loan somebody for 12 months? Give us a striker from the Under-23s who is going to put the ball in the back of the net?’”
Leeds United did sign a striker
Leeds did sign a striker in the summer transfer window, bringing in 20-year-old Eddie Nketiah on loan from Premier League outfit Arsenal on deadline day.
True, the striker is quite inexperienced, but the youngster is very highly rated, and with a bit of time, he can develop into a key figure for Leeds this season.
A striker at Tottenham or City playing for their respective Under-23 sides may not have been an upgrade on Nketiah.
After all, if the striker is so good, then he will be playing for Spurs or City’s first team.
Meanwhile, following the Championship match against Nottingham Forest at the weekend, former Leeds defender Stephen Warnock believes that the Whites are struggling with set-pieces and are missing Pontus Jansson.
Warnock said on EFL on Quest TV (9pm, August 10, 2019): “They struggled with set-pieces. If you consider the size of the players they had in the box last season with Pontus Jansson, are they missing that type of figure? They don’t clear the ball, they’ve got to do better.”
