Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills has offered his thoughts on Liverpool’s defensive problems ahead of Champions League clash with Bayern Munich.

Danny Mills has warned Liverpool that they can’t ‘concede too many chances’ during their Champions League last-16 first leg encounter against Bayern Munich at Anfield on Tuesday night.
BBC Sport report that the Reds are motioning Dejan Lovren’s injury situation as midfielder Fabinho could possibly play at centre-back with Vigil van Dijk suspended and Joe Gomez injured.
Mills spoke about his own experience at playing in a makeshift defence for Leeds during their 1-0 win against AC Milan in the Champions League in 2000.
The former England defender admitted that beforehand the Elland Road crowd felt that his side were going to take a ‘drubbing’ as he offered his thoughts on Liverpool’s current defensive situaition ahead of their big match.
“There can be [more nerves because it’s not your natural position],” Mills told Sky Sports News on 18/02/2019. “But I played [at CB] quite a lot, though.
“Me and Michael Duberry played against AC Milan and we had Shevchenko and Bierhoff. We had the crowd beforehand go, ‘oooooh, this could be a drubbing’ and we got a 1-0 win. Kept a clean sheet, amazingly.

“Liverpool could easily win this 2-1, 3-1, 2-0, but they have got to make sure somehow that they don’t get beat by that scoreline. And that is what worries me with Van Dijk and Lovren possibly missing. They might concede too many chances to a top European side.”
In that game against AC Milan, Lee Bowyer struck a late winner for his team as the Whites went on to also secure that all-important clean sheet against the Italian giants.
Now, Jurgen Klopp will be hoping his side can stop Bayern’s forward line from hurting them as he hopes to take an advantage going into the return leg in Germany.
Despite their defensive problems, the Merseyside club still have their ever-threatening front three at their disposal in, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah.
Klopp and his supporters will be fully aware that if they can produce the goods on the night then most likely they will hurt Bayern’s defence more than the Bundesliga club will hurt them.
