Leeds United would be a bit more welcome in the Premier League than Burnley are, says Danny Mills.

Leeds fans celebrate their team's victory during the Sky Bet Championship match between Leeds United and Derby County at Elland Road on November 29, 2014 in Leeds, England.

Danny Mills has claimed to LUTV that fans of Premier League clubs would prefer to see Leeds United in the top flight rather than Burnley.

Early days but Leeds look like strong promotion contenders so far, with Marcelo Bielsa’s side sitting top of the Championship after six games played.

It has been 14 years since United graced the top flight and it is often said that the Whites are the ‘sleeping giant of English football’ based on how big the club is.

Leeds fans are some of the most passionate in Britain, and Mills, who spent five years at Elland Road, says that neutral supporters wouldn’t hesitate to bring them back at the expense of Burnley for instance.

He told LUTV: “Everyone talks about how it’s a Premier League club. It needs to be back in the Premier League, and it does. I think that’s where it needs to be.

“I don’t want to upset Burnley fans but would they [fans of Premier League clubs] swap Leeds for Burnley? Of course they would, without any shadow of a doubt.”

The Clarets have certainly earned their right to be a Premier League club, by virtue of the fact that they finished seventh last year and reached the preliminary stages of the Europa League.

But Mills is right – Leeds are a bigger club and you can see where he’s coming from.
