Celtic are not better than Southampton, claims Danny Mills.
Celtic have won the Scottish Premiership title… yet again. This is the Bhoys’ sixth successive title triumph in Scotland.
Brendan Rodgers’s side are the dominant force in Scottish football. Celtic have been so good that they have yet to taste defeat in the Scottish Premiership this season.
The Hoops have also clinched the Scottish League Cup and have progressed to the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup – the domestic treble is very much on track. Oh, the Glasgow giants also played in the group stage Champions League this season.
Celtic are one of the biggest clubs in the world and have a global fanbase. If the Bhoys were playing in the Premier League, then they could have been even bigger.
Rodgers recently claimed, as reported by Sky Sports, that his Celtic side would finish in the top six if they were playing in the Premier League.
Not many would agree with the former Liverpool manager, and Danny Mills seems to be one of them. The ex-Leeds United and Manchester City defender believes that the current Celtic side would finish in the bottom half of the Premier League table, and that they are not better than Southampton.
“I think the team as it stands right now, I think they would be in the bottom half,” said Mills on The Monday Night Club show on BBC Radio 5 live on Monday evening (broadcast from 7pm, April 3, 2017).
“Do I think they are any better than the likes of Southampton? No. Simple as that. You know, when you look at the quality of their players, player for player, I think they would probably survive, but I think they would be in the lower half anywhere between 17th and 11th.”
