Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills has told Sky Sports’ Fantasy Football Club that he feels Lucas Radebe is a ‘legend’ of the game.

Mills, now retired, joined Leeds from Charlton Athletic back in 1999, and played more than 100 games for the Whites, playing his part in the club’s run to the Champions League semi-finals in 2001.

Mills had success at the top level, also turning out for Middlesbrough and Manchester City in the Premier League, whilst he also earned 19 caps for England and was a part of the 2002 World Cup squad.

Earlier this month, Mills was a guest on Sky Sports’ Fantasy Football Club, and was asked to pick a team of the best 11 players he played with during his 14-year career in the ‘One2Eleven’ segment of the show.

Three of his former England team-mates were in the team, with Ashley Cole, David Beckham and Paul Scholes all featuring, whilst there was also a place for striker Nicolas Anelka, who he played alongside at Manchester City.

However, the team was largely dominated by his former Leeds team-mates, as Nigel Martyn, Gary Kelly, Rio Ferdinand, Lucas Radebe, David Batty, Harry Kewell and Mark Viduka were all included.

Mills had particular praise for former defender Radebe, who established himself as a cult hero at Elland Road during his 11-year stint with Leeds.

The South African centre back racked up more than 250 appearances in a Leeds shirt before being forced to retire in 2005 – and Mills hailed him as a ‘legend’ having played alongside him in West Yorkshire.

“Lucas is just one of the nicest people you will ever meet in football,” said Mills. “One of the hardest men, one of the most unassuming men – he’s just a legend. His knees were shot to bits, he couldn’t walk for two or three days after games but he just used to tackle people, kick people and laugh. He came to Leeds, could have gone to other clubs but didn’t, stayed there and is such a great ambassador for football around world,” he added.
