Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to maintain their top-four status when they take on Brighton on Tuesday night.
Danny Mills has stated that Tottenham forward Heung-Min Son has to adapt his game when Harry Kane is playing just like Luis Suarez does at Barcelona.
The Sky Sports pundit pointed out that, like Son at Spurs, Suarez has had to change his game when playing alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and previously Neymar.
This season, Kane has been out injured for a number of games and for the majority of the time Son has stepped up and delivered the goods.
Speaking to Football Centre on Sky Sports News (22/04/2019 at 12:10 pm), Mills explained why Son succeeds when Kane isn’t in the starting XI.
“Without him [Kane], Son almost relishes that chance,” Mills told Sky Sports News. “Sometimes what happens is when you’ve got such a good striker, your instant thought is ‘can I get it to him?’ That’s your first look. That’s your first thought.
“If he’s not there, now maybe Son is the first look, so maybe he gets a bit more of the ball – he has to adapt [when Kane is playing].
“When Suarez was at Liverpool, he was off the scale amazing. He then went to Barcelona, he was then playing with Neymar and Messi. So, suddenly, it’s a different dynamic – that’s what good players do, they adapt to systems and they adapt to personnel.”
On Tuesday night, Mauricio Pochettino’s side will host relegation-threatened Brighton on home soil where three points will push them further to securing a top-four spot.
If that can be achieved then it would be a huge relief for the club because playing Champions League football next season is paramount to their progression.
But, all eyes will be on their Champions League semi-final tie against Ajax, with Son set to miss the first leg because of suspension.
That will be a big blow for the North London club, but they will be hoping to stay in the game for the reverse leg where Son will be hoping to work his magic.
