Patrick Bamford has made an impressive impact for Leeds United since his return from injury.

Danny Mills has told LS11 that he feels that Patrick Bamford is almost too good for the Championship and suggested that the Leeds striker is better suited to the Premier League.

Due to injury, Bamford has taken time to make an impact following his summer move to Elland Road. He scored one league goal before the turn of the year with Kemar Roofe performing superbly as Marcelo Bielsa’s first choice striker.

However, since his latest return, Bamford has been a lot more impressive, scoring four goals in six games including a brace in the stunning 4-0 win against West Brom last time out.

His performance hinted that he is ready to take Leeds’ promotion push by the scruff of the neck while Roofe is injured. And former Whites defender Mills backed the 25-year-old to make a big impact during the remaining weeks of the campaign, and added that he could be in his element if Bielsa’s men do go up.

“You don’t come through the Chelsea system and have all those loan deals and all those moves and do very, very well unless you’ve got ability,” he told LS11.

“I think he’s always found it difficult because is he quite good enough for the Premier League? Almost too good for the Championship and the way that he plays probably is better suited to Premier League football, but he’s never quite been able to break in and really sustain it for a period. But hopefully Leeds will benefit from now until the end of the season.”

The stage is perfectly set for Bamford to turn himself into the kind of hero that some wrote him off becoming after his unspectacular start to the season. His quality has rarely been questioned, but Roofe seemed to adapt to Bielsa’s system quicker – of course, he had a full pre-season to adapt – and then the forward sustained the injuries.

But if his current form continues over the coming weeks, then it will arguably be Roofe’s turn to bide his time and wait for a chance once he returns from injury, especially with Tyler Roberts stealing the show in Roofe’s other position last time out.
