Leeds United ended up winning just two of their final 11 Championship matches.

Danny Mills has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 11th May, that he felt Leeds United missed out on the play offs because their squad was so inexperienced.

Leeds looked set for a place in the top six of the Championship table, but a late season collapse cost them a chance at promotion.

Leeds won just two of their last 11 games, as both Sheffield Wednesday and Fulham caught up with them and forced them down into seventh place.

Despite the disappointing ending, Leeds still had a productive season which surpassed many peoples’ expectations.

And Mills feels that Leeds boss Garry Monk has done enough to earn himself a new deal.

“His contract is up, but I think he has done exceptionally well,” Mills said. “He was a young manager and was close to the sack earlier in the season, but I think new owners have been in there for six months and they just ran out of steam.

“It’s a young squad, other than Rob Green, and they ran out of steam and confidence. When you get on that slide it’s difficult to pick it up.”

Monk’s current deal at Leeds is due to expire in the next few weeks, and he has still not been presented with new terms.

According to The Sun, Leeds are preparing to offer Monk a five-year contract to stay at Elland Road, but they are running out of time to secure the 38-year-old manager’s future.
