Leeds United have been in discussions to make former Argentina boss Marcelo Bielsa their new manager as reported by the likes of BBC Sport.

The Argentine is currently unemployed, having been sacked by French side Lille in December after he was briefly suspended by the club following a poor run of results and Leeds have been in the driving seat for his signature for the last two weeks.

Leeds dismissed Paul Heckingbottom last week and managing director Angus Kinnear has since joined director of football Victor Orta in travelling to South America to meet Bielsa.

Leeds fans have been excited by the expected appointment of Bielsa which is being seen as one of the managerial coups of recent years given the Whites still find themselves in the Championship and the Argentine’s reputation as one of the most brilliant and maverick managers of a generation.

Adored and hailed as the world’s best coach by the likes of Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino Leeds fans will be hoping he can be the man to finally get the sleeping giant back in the big time.

But former Leeds hero Danny Mills is not convinced. Speaking to Sky Sports News Mills questioned the appointment and told Bielsa the first thing he must do if he does take the job.

“It’s incredible (that Bielsa has been linked with Leeds),” told Sky Sports News.

Danny Mills speaks during the FA Chairman's England Commission Press Conference at Wembley Stadium on May 8, 2014 in London, England.

“I was at Elland Road last night and speaking to people behind the scenes I believe it it’s very close to being done.

“Great stature, does he know the Championship? I have my doubts, so yes great manager, great name, great experience, but does that count for Championship football?

“He’s going to have to bring in somebody alongside him that understands what that’s all about and I think that’s the only doubt that I would have.

“Very good coach but we all know the Championship is very, very ruthless and that’s why the likes of Neil Warnock are absolutely brilliant at it because they know that division inside out.”
