West Ham United reportedly want Yaya Toure.
Yaya Toure is leaving Manchester City this summer, and the Ivory Coast international has been linked with a move to Premier League rivals West Ham United.
According to The Daily Mail, West Ham have opened talks with Toure, who is set to become a free agent following his exit from City this month.
The former Barcelona midfielder is one of the greatest players in City’s history and worked with current West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad Stadium.
Former Manchester City right-back Danny Mills has given his take on Toure’s potential move to West Ham in the summer transfer window.
Mills said on Sky Sports News on Friday morning (11:05am, June 8, 2018): “Does he have the ability to make a real difference at West Ham? Is he that driving force in midfield that he used to be? I am not convinced that he is anymore.”
“I think they (West Ham) may need to look for a little bit more athleticism,” added Mills.
Not good enough for West Ham United?
Mills seems to think that Toure would not add much to the West Ham midfielder and is past his prime.
While the former Barcelona star is not the player he was a few years ago, he would bring a winning mentality to the Hammers and would be massive in big games.
A short-term deal – maybe a one-year contract – would not be a bad idea, especially as Pellegrini managed him well during their time together at City.
