Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld is one of the best players in the Premier League.

The former Manchester City right-back has suggested that clubs should have lined up to land the Belgium international winger from Tottenham when his release clause was £25 million.
As reported in Metro, Alderweireld had a release clause of £25 million in his contract at Spurs, but it ran out last month.
Mills said about Alderweireld on Sky Sports News on Wednesday evening (7:30pm, August 7, 2019): “I still look at it. Why did nobody trigger Toby Alderweireld’s release clause for £25 million? I don’t get it.
“There are teams paying £18m, £20m, £25m loan fees this season, you could have had Toby Alderweireld. Even if he had two seasons, two-and-a-half because of his age, that was still fabulous business.”

Opportunity missed?
Alderweireld is 30 years of age, but the Spurs star is one of the best central defenders in the Premier League.
The likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and even Arsenal could have done with the Belgian in their squad next season, and they have missed the chance to land the former Atletico Madrid central defender for just £25m.
While the summer transfer window is still open in mainland Europe, one suspects that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will not sell Alderweireld on the cheap now.
