Romelu Lukaku left Everton for Manchester United during the summer of 2017 and scored against Newcastle United this season.

Romelu Lukaku of Manchester United warms up before the Premier League match between Manchester United and Chelsea FC at Old Trafford on April 28, 2019 in Manchester, United Kingdom.

TalkSport pundit Danny Mills is adamant that Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku wouldn’t suit Everton’s style of play, but Newcastle United Rafa Benitez could potentially get a tune out of him.

Everton and Newcastle will be hoping for a big summer in the transfer market and if they can sign quality players then it’ll suit their chances of being successful next season, but seemingly Lukaku won’t be one of those players on their radar.

Sky Sports are reporting that Italian giants Inter want to sign Lukaku, along with Victor Moses, once Antonio Conte is appointed as their new manager.

During the summer of 2017, Lukaku left Goodison Park to join then-manager Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford for a fee of £75 million, according to BBC Sport.

Speaking to Drivetime on TalkSport (23/05/2019 at 4:10 pm), former England defender Mills discussed Lukaku’s future as his United career is seemingly coming to an end.

On whether he’d take Lukaku back to Everton: “No, I don’t think I would,” Mills told TalkSport. “The style of play has changed. When Lukaku was fantastic and at his best, two, three, four seasons ago, football was a little bit different.

“Since Guardiola and Klopp have come in, the way in which people play is a little different now. It doesn’t quite suit Lukaku as much. I don’t think he doesn’t get into a top-six side. Maybe as a backup.

On whether Lukaku would see Everton as a step back: “I think he probably would,” Mills added. “When he went to Manchester United it was a huge transfer. One of the biggest clubs in the world. They always say you should never go back, especially if you’ve been successful. I just don’t think he suits Everton and the way they play.

On where he would fit in: “Newcastle. Could Rafa Benitez get a tune out of him? Maybe Newcastle, maybe that might be a direction that he could possibly go in.”

Whether it be at West Brom, Everton or at Manchester United, Lukaku has always had this tag over his head that he struggles against the top-six sides.

Amid the chaos at Old Trafford, the Belgian powerhouse has struggled to lead the line this season and towards the back end of the campaign, he lost his place in the starting XI.
