Patrick Bamford failed to score for Leeds United, who picked up all three points against Barnsley on Sunday.
Danny Mills has claimed that Patrick Bamford told Marcelo Bielsa that he was ‘frustrated’ during Leeds United’s 2-0 win against Barnsley at Oakwell.
Bamford started the encounter on Sunday afternoon, but with Leeds typically creating numerous chances and struggling to put the ball in the back of the net, Bielsa brought Eddie Nketiah into the fold for Bamford.
The Arsenal loanee changed the game by opening the scoring and then winning a penalty, which was converted by Klich as Leeds walked away with all three points.
Speaking to Sunday Exclusive on TalkSport (15/09/2019 at 2:00 pm), former Leeds defender Mills shared his thoughts on how Bamford performed on the day.
“It’s been a difficult afternoon for Patrick Bamford,” Mills told TalkSport. “He’s had opportunities. The one that he did have, he put it into the back of the net, but it was ruled out for offside.
“He’s done pretty well though, I think. Bamford now is frustrated. He’s just said that to his manager. You can tell that he’s frustrated. Maybe that’s one of the reasons for taking him off. He doesn’t want to lose him for anything silly for any length of time.
“But I have to say that the referee hasn’t done Bamford favours at times. Defenders have been all over him.”
Bamford has started off the season in a strong fashion and Nketihah coming off the bench and proving his worth once again should be seen as a positive.
It proves that Leeds have strength in depth and that they are not relying on one player to get the goals for them, as Nketiah will no doubt be pushing for a starting berth.
That result against Barnsley means that Leeds top the Championship table and they will be hoping to maintain that as they take on Derby County on Saturday.
