With Leeds United striker Kemar Roofe seemingly heading out of Elland Road, who should replace him at the club?

Danny Mills has claimed that Leeds United are selling star striker Kemar Roofe because they ‘need the money’ as he described his potential exit from Elland Road as ‘strange’.

Before Leeds’ 3-1 win against Bristol City on Sunday afternoon, Marcelo Bielsa stated that he would ‘have to adapt’ if Roofe signs for Anderlecht before Thursday’s deadline, as quoted by BBC Sport.

Roofe was one of Leeds’ standout performers last season, but he is now joining a list of players who the club are seemingly happy to part ways with this summer – Pontus Jansson being the obvious one, Jack Clarke being the other, but he was loaned back.

Nonetheless, speaking to Weekend Sports Breakfast on TalkSport (04/08/2019 at 9:15 am), Mills shared his thoughts on Roofe’s transfer and why the club are willing to let him go.

“Kemar Roofe, it seems as though he could be heading the other way,” Mills told TalkSport. “I just feel maybe the club need the money because it’s a strange move for him to go to Anderlecht, at this stage of where he is and where Leeds are.

“The worry is that they still have a very, very small squad. And that cost them dearly at the back end of last season when they started picking up injuries because Bielsa’s training regime and the way that he played was absolutely relentless.”

Last season, the constant talk was that Leeds have a thin squad and they need to add more depth to their squad if they are to make that return to the Premier League.

Well, the potential sale of Roofe won’t help their cause, but it will put the pressure on Patrick Bamford’s shoulders as he got off to a great start on Sunday.

He scored during Leeds opening day win at Ashton Gate, and if he can continue to produce the goods for the Yorkshire club then it will help Bielsa a lot.
