Tottenham Hotspur defender Keiran Trippier has been dropped from Gareth Southgate’s 23-man England squad.

Danny Mills has stated that Gareth Southgate was right to drop Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier from his England squad.
The Three Lions will take part in the Nations League in June, with Southgate opting to drop the likes of Trippier and his Tottenham teammate Harry Winks for that newly-formed tournament, as reported by BBC Sport.
Last summer, Trippier was one of England’s standout performers at the World Cup in Russia, but during the recently concluded Premier League season, he didn’t push on.
Speaking to Jim White on TalkSport (28/05/2019 at 12:20 pm), Mills suggested that Arsene Wenger always said that you should ‘never’ buy or judge a player on the back of a tournament as he explained why Southgate was right to drop Trippier.
“With the season he [Trippier] has had, is Trent Alexander-Arnold better [than him]? Yes,” Mills told TalkSport. “Has Kyle Walker had a better season? Yes. You don’t need three full-backs. Simple as that. It just comes down to a numbers game and the best two have got into the squad.
“Arsene Wenger always said, ‘Never buy a player or judge a player of a back of a tournament’ because three games can make you look like a world beater. Make you look absolutely outstanding.”

Liverpool’s Trent-Alexander Arnold and Manchester City’s Kyle Walker will be competing for that first choice right-back spot.
Alexander-Arnold, just like Trippier, will be playing in the Champions League final on Saturday, whilst Walker just helped City secure the domestic treble.
Whilst Trippier will be hugely disappointed at being dropped by England, he will be looking to prove his worth at the start of next season, so he can work his way back into the national set-up.
