Barton’s career at Ibrox under Rangers boss Mark Warburton appears to be over.

Danny Mills, a former Manchester City team-mate of Joey Barton, has admitted on Sky Sports News HQ (20/10/16) that he was surprised when the midfielder first made his doomed move to Rangers in the summer.
Barton is currently suspended by the Ibrox club and it has been reported he will not play for Mark Warburton again.
It comes after an apparent training ground slanging match with Rangers team-mate Andy Halliday and Warburton was clearly not happy with the conduct of the midfielder after the incident.

Former England international Mills played with Barton at Manchester City. He told Sky Sports today that he was surprised that Barton even made the move to Ibrox in the first place. He felt his former team-mate would have wanted to prove himself in the Premier League, rather than head to Rangers:
“I did question his ambition when he went to Rangers. I thought obviously he was one of the best players in the Championship last season. I thought he would have another go at the Premier League.

“I did question his ambition to go to Rangers and play in a two team league where it’s going to be maybe a bit more comfortable.
“But of course it looks already as though that career in Scotland is going to come to a very abrupt end.”
As it happens it seems that Barton has brought an end to his time at Ibrox pretty swiftly.
With reports suggesting his Rangers career is over he is unlikely to stick around in Glasgow for long and it will be interesting to see if any clubs in England take a chance on him come January.
