The 25-year-old made his 13th start of the season, and looked in fine touch, but couldn’t prevent his side from getting beaten 4-3.
The former Burnley striker has played only 17 minutes for the Liverpool first team this season, and he was out for a lengthy spell with a knee injury.
With Jurgen Klopp having a wealth of attacking options at his disposal, this could be Ings’ final month with the Reds before leaving the club permanently or temporarily on loan in January.
With those two goals, he took his his tally to seven for the season, and his recent performances will no doubt garner interest among potential suitors.
Ings scored his first goal when after Harry Wilson’s penalty was saved, the striker was alert enough to follow through from the save.
He completed his double from the penalty spot after Wilson was brought down.
Liverpool fans took to social networking site Twitter to discuss his performance, and the majority of them felt that he needs to move away from the club to get regular games.
