Newcastle United will offer Danny Ings an escape route from Liverpool and should consider his fellow Anfield outcast Lazar Markovic too.

A run of one win and four goals in their last six Premier League fixtures appears to have ramped up the desire for a new striker at Newcastle United in January.

The Chronicle reports that Rafa Benitez ideally wants two new attackers – and will push for a loan move for Liverpool’s Danny Ings regardless of whether the club is in new hands or not by the turn of the year.

Ings has recovered from almost two years on the sidelines with knee injuries and netted four times in Liverpool Under-23s 7-0 thrashing of Bristol City this week. And with the 25-year-old likely to be loaned out by The Reds, Newcastle would welcome a proven Premier League striker to St James’ Park.

Though Ings is not the only forgotten man who could escape Anfield in January. The Mail reports that Lazar Markovic will be allowed to leave after failing to make a single Premier League appearance for the Merseyside giants since 2014/15.

Markovic did impress sporadically during a loan spell at Hull last season, however, and at 23 still has time on his side – even if he’s unlikely to live up to that ‘Balkan Messi’ nickname that has been hanging over his head since his formative years in Benfica.

Markovic, who once cost Liverpool £20 million, could find a loving home at Newcastle, however. Fittingly, the Magpies have a real affinity with wingers.

Markovic’s speed and individual quality could be vital for a side whose results this season have come from hard-work and togetherness rather than inspiration.
