Leeds United are four games away from earning promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa reacts during the Sky Bet Championship match between Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road on April 13, 2019 in Leeds, England.

Sky Sports pundit Danny Higginbotham has shared that he realised that if Leeds United ‘dominate possession’ then they would be able to cope with Marcelo Bielsa’s style of play.

At the start of the season, many shared a critical view on Bielsa’s high-intensity work rate and predicted his players wouldn’t be able to cope with it when the season entered its business period.

But, as things stand, his team are sitting second in the league and have more than proven that they have been able to deliver what their highly-rated coach has been demanding all season.

Speaking to Match Centre on Sky Sports News (18/04/2019 11:55 am), Higginbotham provided an interesting insight into Leeds’ style of play under Bielsa and being able to cope with the high level of fixtures.

“At the start of the season when Leeds had a great start everyone said about Bielsa was the winter champion in France and he’s won leagues in South America but it’s only a span of 14 games,” Higginbotham told Sky Sports News.

“What I looked at and what I saw was if Leeds dominated possession, you don’t have to run around, so you’re conserving energy. It’s shown to be true. They have carried on doing that. They play some outstanding and fantastic football.”

On Friday afternoon, the Whites will host relegation-threatened Wigan at Elland Road before travelling to London three days later to take on Brentford.

Bielsa’s squad will be severely tested during these encounters and they will be fully aware that promotion could be sealed if they pick up maximum points and Sheffield United drop points.

The Blades have drawn back-to-back matches and if they continue in their ways then they will have to face the possibility of trying to earn promotion to the Premier League via the dreaded playoffs.
