Former Newcastle United player Moussa Sissoko has played a key role for Tottenham Hotspur this season.
Sky pundit Danny Higginbotham has admitted that he didn’t realise ‘how quick’ Tottenham midfielder Moussa Sissoko was once he ‘gets into his stride’.
The 29-year-old, who initially struggled to prove his worth at White Hart Lane following his move from Newcastle in 2016, has now become a key part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.
The once-criticised star, who used to play out wide for the Magpies, has been deploying a defensive midfield role this term and there is no doubt that he has been proving his worth.
It was put to Higginbotham on the Football Centre on Sky Sports that Newcastle fans weren’t too happy with Sissoko when he was playing at St James’ Park then upon his move to Tottenham, they weren’t initially happy with him, but now he has had a renaissance:
“He has,” Higginbotham responded on Sky Sports News on 21/02/2019. “When he is going forward. He’s unbelievable when he gets into his stride. He is one of those players that you don’t realise how quick he is until he gets into his stride.
“He has now become an integral part of this Tottenham team.”
Over the course of the season, Sissoko has played 29 games in all competitions for the north London club, including starting Spurs’ remarkable 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last time out [transfermarkt].
He has showcased his power in the middle of the park, ability to regain possession, drive with the ball from deep and now showcasing a clever understanding as to when to release the ball.
Sissoko will be preparing for Tottenham’s Premier League away clash at Burnley on Saturday as Pochettino will be hoping his team can continue their recent good run of form.
