Tottenham Hotspur have tied down the contracts of Kyle Walker, Danny Rose and Eric Dier among others in recent weeks.

Former player Danny Higginbotham told Sky Sports News how impressed he has been with Tottenham Hotspur this year after the club came close to winning the Premier League title.

Spurs’ young and exciting group of players just missed out on a first Premier League trophy, and despite a late collapse at the back end of last season they still managed the club’s highest ever finish in the Premier League era.

And now with Danny Rose, Eric Dier, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and most recently Kyle Walker all signing new deals at the club, Higginbotham believes exciting times are ahead for the club.

“It’s fantastic business,” the former Stoke City man told Sky Sports News. “If the top four teams didn’t sign any players, I think you’d say Tottenham were the only team that are better.

“They’re a team that are going places, they’ve got a young group, a close-knit dressing room and (Pochettino) is doing the right thing by tying them all down as well.”

The former Gibraltar international defender also praised the Lilywhites’ quality at the back and feels that area of the field will be key to their success this season.

“That’s what (Spurs) do really well,” Higginbotham continued. “Tottenham are a team that are very rarely counter attacked because the full-backs can go forward.

“Usually what you’ll see is the two centre-backs and the defensive midfielder in a triangle but because you’ve got Dier, they’ll sit there and spread themselves out across the 18-yard box – and lets not forget (Toby) Alderweireld and (Jan) Vertonghen are used to playing as full-backs for Belgium as well.”

Spurs have enjoyed an unbeaten start in the Premier League this season and currently sit third in the table ahead of Saturday’s trip to promoted Middlesbrough (3pm kick-off).
