Leeds United are one game away from reaching the play-off final.
Danny Higginbotham has lauded the ‘unselfish’ Kemar Roofe after he helped Leeds United secure a valuable 1-0 win at Derby County in the first leg of their play-off semi-final encounter on Saturday.
The Sky Sports pundit stated that Roofe will be ‘disappointed’ that he didn’t score a second goal at Pride Park as Marcelo Bielsa’s side now have an advantage in their quest to reach Wembley.
If Leeds avoid defeat to Frank Lampard’s side next Wednesday night then they will be at Wembley later on this month contesting for the final Premier League spot.
Speaking during his commentary stint on Sky Sports Football (11/05/2019), Higginbotham awarded Roofe the Man of the Match award for his display.
“His movement caused Derby problems,” Higginbotham told Sky Sports Football. “He’ll be disappointed he didn’t get the second, but I think his movement is key to the way Leeds play. He makes space for others. Very unselfish running and another goal.”
It was a much-needed goal for Roofe, who was struggling to find some rhythm and some bite in his game after he made a return from injury.
But his goal and return to form will delight the Leeds supporters because it has come during a crucial stage of the season – the club are seemingly two games away from England’s top-flight.
On Wednesday night, Derby, who have suffered three defeats against Leeds this term, will have beat Bielsa’s side at Elland Road if they want to reach Wembley.
The winner of that encounter will come up against either Aston Villa or West Brom – Dean Smith’s side beat their Midland rivals 2-1 on Saturday.
