Former West Ham United Hammer of the Year Danny Gabbidon has been reacting to news of interest in midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate.

The agent of West Ham midfielder Kouyate has told Turkish Football that there are Italian and Premier League clubs keen on signing him.

The Hammers snapped up the Senegal star from Belgian outfit Anderlecht back in the summer of 2014, and he has become a key player for the East Londoners ever since.

The 27-year-old has accumulated more than 120 appearances for West Ham in that time and in the inflated transfer marketplace was a steal at just £7.5million.

Kouyate has been linked with bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the past and Hammers fans would be sorry to see him go.

But former West Ham defender and one-time Hammer of the Year Danny Gabbidon has delivered a damning reaction to talk of interest in Kouyate from elsewhere.

“So Premier League scouts don’t watch him in the Premier League?” Gabbidon questioned on Twitter.

“They get impressed from a few international games!”

Some fans will agree with Gabbidon’s viewpoint as Kouyate has been some way off his best for the club of late.

But then which West Ham players haven’t?

And in fairness to Kouyate he has selflessly played on through injury and made no fuss when being played out of position at centre back and even right back to help the team over the last 18 months under Slaven Bilic.

The Croatian should shoulder much of the blame for Kouyate’s ineffectiveness given his importance the to team in the heart of midfield.
