Former defender Danny Gabbidon was surprised at just how bad Nottingham Forest looked at Bristol City on Friday night.

Dougie Freedman’s side lost 2-0 at City and Gabbidon expressed his dismay at how bad Forest were on Twitter.

Indeed, he suggested the side either got their shape all wrong or that the players don’t want to play for their manager.

That potential friction, he says, made it ‘all too easy’ for Bristol City as they coasted to a comfortable home victory.

No defeat is disastrous this early in the season, as a Forest win or two could once again transform how the Championship table looks for Freedman’s side.

But two factors work against the Nottingham Forest boss after the 2-0 loss. Firstly, Bristol City were rock bottom of the league standings before the Forest game and comfortably dismantled Freedman’s men.

Secondly, the result leaves Forest just two points above City – four points off the relegation zone and 10 off the top of the table.

Perhaps Gabbidon was overreacting but the manner of Nottingham Forest’s performance and defeat certainly justifies his surprise.
