The Everton academy graduate has had a long and fruitful career in the game and he has fond memories of his time at Goodison Park.

Danny Fox has spoken fondly of his time at Everton ahead of his Wigan Athletic side’s pre-season friendly against the Toffees.
The 33-year-old, a boyhood Everton fan, joined up with the Goodison Park club’s academy in 2003 and was subsequently offered a full-time contract with the Toffees, which he signed in May 2004.
Although he did not make a first-team appearance for Everton, Fox went on to enjoy a fruitful career in the game after leaving Goodison Park in 2005, playing for the likes of Celtic, Southampton, Nottingham Forest and Burnley, with more than 450 senior appearances clocked to date (Transfermarkt).
Speaking in his pre-season match day programme interview and published on the Wigan website, the veteran left-back says the likes of Everton icons David Weir, Alan Stubbs, Duncan Ferguson and Gary Naysmith all helped him out and had a major impact on his career.

“It was a shame that I didn’t make it at Everton,” wrote Fox. “It wasn’t meant to be, but I’ve got so many fond memories of playing for Everton as a kid. Getting the opportunity to train with the first team was a dream come true.
“It’s definitely had an impact on my career. Training with the likes of Stubbs and Weir who had unbelievable careers at Everton and in Scotland helps. The way they held themselves and the way they were around the club was a great example to follow. They were always warm and welcoming with the young lads like myself.”
Everton will face Werder Bremen following the Wigan friendly and then get their Premier League season under way away at Crystal Palace on 10 August.
