Danny Murphy has given his take on talkSPORT (11:07am, June 7, 2021) on Tottenham Hotspur reportedly ending talks with Antonio Conte.
The former Tottenham midfielder believes that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was right to end talks with Conte if the Italian manager was asking too much.
The Sun has reported that Spurs ended negotiations with the former Chelsea manager due to his demands.
The report has claimed that Conte wanted £15 million per year as salary and £100 million in transfer funds.
Murphy said on talkSPORT (11:07am, June 7, 2021): “My feeling would be Daniel Levy or Tottenham shouldn’t be held over a barrel by anyone. How can you demand more money than they are actually earning? How much money would anybody has to compete with Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea next season?
“You would need £400-£500 million to get Tottenham somewhere, probably £300m-£400m. They are simply not going to give him that. Depending on his demands, if they were ridiculous, yeah, get him out of the door, go and get somebody who is going to work under the restrictions that Tottenham have.
“You can’t build an empire overnight unless you have a new owner come in from Saudi or wherever who has got billions of pounds who can compete overnight, otherwise the whole thing falls down. If he was in there being stupid, yeah, Daniel’s right. Next one.”

Conte is a serial winner, and he is not going to any club to just finish in the top four. He wants to win.
The 51-year-old has won league titles with Juventus, Inter Milan and Chelsea.
Now, of course, Tottenham cannot become title-challengers overnight.
Spurs could not even qualify for the Europa League next season.
There is a considerable gap between Spurs and Premier League champions Manchester City.
Liverpool and Chelsea are also far ahead of Tottenham.
£100 million really does not get you a lot these days, maybe three quality players.
Tottenham are likely to be a long-term project. It could take two or three years for the North London club to challenge for the Premier League title.
Conte has just won the Serie A title with Inter, and the Italian is unlikely to wait for two years to win another championship.
