The 20-year-old midfielder could make his debut for the USL club on Saturday when they host Liverpool’s Under-21s.
Daniel Trickett-Smith has left Liverpool to join USL club Sacramento Republic FC, the two sides have confirmed.
The 20-year-old midfielder’s four-year spell on Merseyside was widely expected to end this summer when his contract expired, but he will now have the chance to kick-start his career in the US third tier under the guidance of former Cheltenham Town manager Paul Buckle.
Speaking to Republic FC’s official website about Trickett-Smith, Buckle said: “We are looking forward to working with Daniel Trickett-Smith. He is someone that I have seen play, I have seen train and he is a very, very talented player.
“He can create and score goals and we really hope that he settles in quickly and shows Republic FC fans what a great player he is.”
Trickett-Smith joined Liverpool from Crewe Alexandra in April 2012 for an initial £300,000 fee with the potential to rise to £1 million with add-ons and made 16 appearances for the club’s Under-21s over the last two seasons, scoring two goals.
The Newcastle-under-Lyme native, who had also been courted by Manchester City, was tipped for a bright future with the Reds after helping them reach the FA Youth Cup semi-finals in 2013 alongside Jordan Ibe and signed his first professional contract that summer.
However, he failed to make the step up into the first-team squad after struggling with injuries and leaves the club before getting the chance to make his senior debut.
His arrival in Sacramento coincides with the Liverpool Under-21 side’s post-season tour of the US and he could now make his first appearance for his new team against Michael Beale’s side this coming weekend.
