The Liverpool striker has promised England will be better than they were in the group stages of Euro 2016.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Daniel Sturridge has promised that England will be better against Iceland.
The Three Lions qualified for the knockout stages of Euro 2016 last week as they finished second in Group B behind Wales.
It was not a perfect group stage for them, with disappointing draws against Russia and Slovakia taking the shine from the late win over the Welsh.
Nonetheless, it has worked out in their favour as they were handed a last 16 clash with Iceland, considered by many as a favourable tie for the Three Lions.
Iceland have been impressive to say the least in this tournament though, and Sturridge has promised his side will be better to secure their place in the quarter-finals.
“Playing in a game like that [against Slovakia], you have to be on song – and we weren’t on song,” he told BBC Sport.
“We’re going to be better; we will be creative, we will score goals, we will excite people, we will have the fans with a smile on their face. Slovakia was a lesson.”
It remains to be seen if Sturridge has a role to play in the England side that Hodgson picks to take on Iceland.
The striker found himself on the bench at the beginning of the tournament, as Harry Kane was the preferred centre forward.
The Liverpool star’s impact against Wales pushed him up the pecking order though, and it remains to be seen if Hodgson continues to put his faith in him after the disappointing display against Slovakia.
