Paul Merson has written in The Daily Star that he thinks that Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy will win the transfer saga involving Harry Kane and Manchester City.

The former Arsenal star has said that Tottenham chairman Levy is “an unbelievable businessman” and will not sell Kane without making sure that he ends up as the winner in the deal.

Merson wrote in in The Daily Star: “I can’t see City stumping up the cash and if that means he ends up staying then he’s really lost because he’s gambled his relationship with the fans on forcing Levy’s hand.

“If I was Harry I’d be worried right now. He’s in a corner against a man who isn’t at Tottenham for his football knowledge.

“Levy is an unbelievable businessman. When has he ever lost a battle? I don’t think he has and I wouldn’t put a penny on him losing this one either.”

What’s the story?

City manager Pep Guardiola has said that he wants to sign Kane.

The former Barcelona head coach has added that the Premier League champions can only do a deal if Spurs are willing to negotiate over the transfer fee.

The Daily Star have reported that City are willing to pay £120 million for the 28-year-old striker, but Spurs value the England international at £160 million.

Harry Kane controversy

The Athletic, Sky Sports and The Telegraph are among the media outlets who reported this week that Kane failed to turn up for pre-season training.

However, the English striker has released a statement today saying that it was always planned that he would report for pre-season training on Saturday.

It will be interesting to see what happens now.

Will Kane stay at Tottenham? Will City pay what Spurs want? Will Tottenham sell the striker even if they are offered £160 million?
