Tottenham Hotspur are yet to make a signing this summer, while many of their rivals have spent heavily.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has suggested that while Spurs may not be competing with their Premier League rivals in terms of the money that they are spending during the summer window, their stance on contracts should still appeal to some better players, the Daily Mail reports.
Spurs’ summer window has been fairly quiet so far with Kyle Walker proving to be the one high-profile player to leave, while Mauricio Pochettino is still awaiting making the first addition to his senior squad also.

But while some may fear that Tottenham’s potential reluctance to pay the top fees is costing them in the window, Levy seemingly hinted that, if the right players come along, Spurs can often compete and appeal to those players – and that is down to how they approach contract talks.
“You just have to find the balance and the philosophy at Tottenham is that if a player does well we will reward them and we will keep rewarding them,” he said, as reported by the Mail.
“That’s one of the attractions of Tottenham that you may sign a five-year deal, but if someone does exceptionally well after a year we’ll tear up that contract and give them another one.
“I think pretty much all of the team got a new contract and some of them more than one.”

While some players may simply look at the fees certain clubs are spending, and use that to assess the ambition of a team, Tottenham’s strategy should also appeal.
By handing their key men long-term contracts, they should surely find it much easier to hold onto those players even when they attract interest from elsewhere – while it will also show to potential targets that Tottenham have strong foundations in place.
