It’s the news many Tottenham fans have been waiting for – Jose Mourinho has lost his job.

Spurs have today confirmed that Mourinho has been sacked, with his coaching staff also let go in a shock move.

Few would have expected Mourinho to go just days before the Carabao Cup final, but Tottenham’s form has been so poor that Daniel Levy has pulled the trigger.

Eurosport reported last week that RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann is Daniel Levy’s first-choice for the job, in what would be an ambitious move.

That has already been reported widely, but the timing of Mourinho’s sacking may have given even more pointers towards that being the case.

Over the weekend, Hansi Flick announced his intention to leave Bayern Munich. He’s told Bayern he wants to go, and is likely to become Germany’s next manager, replacing his former mentor Joachim Loew.

That leaves Bayern searching for a new manager too, and guess who the hot favourite is? You guessed it… Nagelsmann.

Lothar Matthaus has claimed that Nagelsmann will become Flick’s replacement, and Sport Bild note that he would be a target, but could cost a huge €20million (£17million) to prise away from Leipzig.

As the Flick fallout continues and Bayern announce that they ‘disapprove’ of Flick’s decision, Tottenham have now decided to part ways with Mourinho.

The timing may well hint that Spurs don’t want to risk losing out on Nagelsmann as the Bayern job becomes available, and it looks like the race for the German coach is now on.
